Subject: Please Join our Small Arms Campaign

Dear Community Groups,

Some of you have I have contacted before and for some this will be your first contact on this campaign. The International Take Action to Control Small Arms campaign is in full swing.  Everyone can participate in small and big ways.  I hope your organization takes a little time to take part. The proliferation and spread of small arms crosses over so many of our issues I'm sure you'll agree that its worth taking a little time to try to make a difference. Hopefully most of you will have received by mail a package indicating how you can participate in this campaign.  I have also attached those documents to this e-mail if you have not yet received the package. Please let me know how your organization is able to participate. Should you have any questions or need more petitions or letters please let me know.  If you wish to return petitions or letters to me, I am happy to receive your documents and send them on to the right people.  Also, if you have not received a package or would like one for someone else please let me know.

Thanks so much for your help!
In Peace,

Our Million Faces petition is collecting photos and self portraits from around the world to reach our goal of one million faces by June 2006. We will use these faces to send a powerful, global message of support to the world's governments for an International Arms Trade Treaty. (901,576 so far!) http://www.controlarms.org/

"We must not relax our efforts to combat the scourge of illicit small arms and light weapons, which continue to kill, maim, and displace scores of thousands of innocent people every year." ... Kofi A. Annan, UN Secretary-General. http://www.un.org/events/smallarms2006/

IANSA member organisations are working to stop the flood of guns that ruins lives and undermines development. At the 2006 world gun summit at the UN in June, IANSA members will be campaigning for tough measures to reduce both the supply and demand for guns, and increased resources to remove the weapons already in circulation. http://www.iansa.org/

From now until July 2006, when the UN meets to set a small arms agenda, we have a unique opportunity to speak out about the suffering caused by small arms proliferation and misuse. The United Church of Canada joins Project Ploughshares' call to work for the dignity, security, and well-being of people in gun-affected regions.
